My daughter Natalie had Homecoming over the weekend. The theme was City Of Stars and the inspiration came from the movie La La Land. It's an excellent movie by the way, but the ending is pretty devastating. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Natalie loves the film even though the ending is traumatizing so she was thrilled with the theme.
She found a dress on Etsy from the Keepyourherrtlon shop. She loves shopping on Etsy because her biggest worry is showing up at the dance wearing a dress that someone else has on. I mean, the horror, the absolute horror.
She picked a cream off the shoulder corset dress. She had star clips in her hair and a Pisces sign necklace because she is very much a Pisces. That gold strap is not part of the dress, it's her purse.
She loves corset dresses because she adores how those dresses hug her figure. Plus I think she feels like she's gone back in time as I lace her up. Sometimes I'll quote Gone With The Wind or Titanic at her as I lace her up. "You ain't ever going to be 18 inches again Miss Scarlett!"
She paired the dress with these pretty shoes from Target (they were on sale for 30% off when I got them!)
Her boyfriend came to pick her up and he made sure to match her dress:
They ate before they went to the dance and Natalie tucked a dish cloth over her dress because we are not the neatest eaters. When she picked out a cream dress I even encouraged her to go with another color because we are, well, messy...
It reminded me of that scene in Gilmore Girls when Rory is going to the dance and eating tacos and she tucks a napkin like this over her dress.
Anyhow, yes, they ended up having a fantastic time:
Natalie was appalled to learn that so many people have never seen La La Land before. I believe it's streaming on Netflix if you're part of that crowd. But warning: you'll probably cry.
My heart squeezed a bit as I took the pictures because I realized it was her last Homecoming. It all went by so fast.
And like she's always done since she was a little girl, she spun around in her dress, making sure it fluffed out around her.
She might be a senior, but I hope she always checks the twirlability in whatever dress she has on.
Such a pretty dress. Natalie always finds the most amazing dresses.
