"I wanna hold your haaaaannd....I wanna hold your hand."
"Yesterday....all my troubles seemed so far away.."
"Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da life goes on.." I sing that to Natalie whenever she's pouting about not getting her way.
I've always been a fan of The Beatles. I grew up listening to their music. So of course I would play it for my kids, wanting them to understand what real music sounds like. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy some music of today, but most of it is pure noise, and a lot of artists use too much auto tune.
My Mom asked if we wanted to attend a Beatles Tribute concert, and of course we said yes. I mean, duh. The Beatles! Quality music! Yes, please.
The concert was at The Majestic, a gorgeous theater in downtown San Antonio:
Now, you couldn't take any photos of the performers on stage, so I don't have any of those. But picture them looking like this:
They did wear these outfits at one point but there were various outfit changes. They started off young, and then they "aged" with different hair styles and mustaches. Between songs they also played some commercials from the 1960s, and those were fun to see. (Dippity Do hair gel!) Natalie cracked up when there was a commercial with The Flintstones and they were advertising cigarettes. (Curious? See it here.)
"Don't they know cigarettes are TERRIBLE for you?" she gasped.
I'll admit first hand that even though I love the music, that I can't keep track of who each Beatle is. I know who Paul is, because Paul married that woman with one leg and she took half of what he had in the divorce. But George, Ringo, and John?
Well.
"George was my favorite," Mom told me.
"George is the one who got shot," I replied.
Mom looked shocked. "What? No! That was John."
"And Ringo is the one singing?" I continued.
"What? No! He's on the drums!"
Oops.
Natalie was all, "Seriously Mom, I even know Ringo was on the drums!"
I am terrible with names. I still mix up the New Kids On The Block. Sorry.
Anyway, the show was about two hours, and it was amazing. There were special effects and various lighting on stage. Plus there were a lot of older people who would sing along with the songs, but there were young ones mixed in too. The woman in front of us looked to be in her sixties, and she told me I was raising Natalie right by teaching her what proper music was. I agree. I can NOT have her thinking that Ariana Grande is a proper singer. No.
At one point the whole audience was standing up and singing Hey Jude, Natalie include.
"Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah...Hey Jude.."
Did my sometimes moody tween enjoy the show? Yes, even though she totally looks annoyed in this photo.
She also tolerated it when I would sing along to the music. Sort of. Sometimes she would hide.
"You sound like a dying goat," she complained. "Geez."
Would I recommend the show? Absolutely! The music is all live, nothing is recorded. The men on the stage have talent and you'll forget that they aren't really the Beatles. If the show is around your area, go! Teach your kids what music is SUPPOSED to sound like. Cardi B is not music, that's noise.
(You can see if the show is headed to your area here and if you're curious about the show, check out the YouTube channel here.)
After the show, we decided to get something to eat, so we headed for the Riverwalk:
We went to Margaritaville:
I'll be honest, the food wasn't that great, but the drinks were.
Also, there was a woman walking around in stilts making balloon animals.
So if you're looking for some quality music, go see Rain: A Tribute To The Beatles! (See if they're in your area here!)
Do you like The Beatles?
