I've been married to my husband for sixteen years. And honestly, we've never made a big deal about Valentine's Day. Neither of us want to go out in the evening because ew, crowds. So if we can, we go out for breakfast or lunch and call it a day. If he can swing it, we'll be doing that on Tuesday. If not, oh well.
I've seen Valentine's Day gift guides on various blogs and while some items are lovely, this is what I asked my husband for:
"A book and chocolate." I do not really care about purses, unless they are in the shape of a book. My regular pink purse I use most of the time was found on clearance from Target. I cannot fathom spending over $50 for a purse. I'm cheap. I also do not get very excited about makeup, shoes, and jewelry. I'm serious when I say that I only want a book and chocolate.
My husband is getting this:
Some gift guides had man purses and hair products. Does he LOOK like a man who would use that stuff??
(I mean..he's practically bald, so..)
I won't be dressing up either. I'll be in something like this:
Or, more accurately, my PJs, because they're more comfortable. My husband will be in a t-shirt and comfy pants because when you've been married for as long as we have, it's how it's done.
No one will cook dinner, because hey, it's a holiday, and no one should have to cook on a holiday. I'll most likely order pizza because again, we don't go out on Valentine's Day night because too many people.
My daughter is having a party at her school, and will be passing out her cards and candy. Yes, we always pass out candy, because there's only so much fun a kid can have with a glo-stick. And her box is a unicorn.
My son is in high school and they don't do parties in high school. I'll send him to school with extra chocolate in his lunch to make up for it.
So that'll be my Valentine's Day: simple. Low key. Chocolate. Sweats.
Just the way I like it.
How are you spending YOUR Valentine's Day?

Sounds perfect! Very much like mine, except sometimes a DVD instead of a book. Some years he gets me both, and always chocolate! Pizza delivery or Chinese takeaway for dinner. My husband is easy to buy for. He collects anything to do with cars or the Packers, and he loves eBay bucks. Simple. Nice. What more could a person want? :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I love easy ;)
DeleteHaha I can see my future in this 😅 Mine it's 3rd valentine's day so quite obvious that I still get excited...well this year it's on Tuesday which is a weekday so might be a I'll be cooking something special for him. And on the weekend will be goin to Disney if weather is good :)
ReplyDeleteOh fun, we're going to Disney in March.
DeleteI expect to be home for sure but without the sweats. No big plans or reservations. My daughter is excited to pass her Valentines out and her treat day.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect Valentines day! I think i'll be doing the same with my boyfriend. We decided to not get each other anything and just cook a nice dinner at home together instead of going out. Way too many people out on Valentines day!

Sounds like a great way to celebrate to me. We don't celebrate it, Kyle will be working really late anyway and I will be in Florida with E.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great way to celebrate, btw your purse, LOVE it. I'm not a big vday celebrator.
ReplyDeleteI do not think there is any standard way to celebrate any festivals . What makes you happy is the right way. I have never celebrated Valentine's day. It is not a big celebration in India.

This sounds like a wonderful way to spend the day. Plus, the most important thing is the love and memories that you all will share.
ReplyDeleteWe usually keeps our pretty simple, too. Some chocolate, a party at school, and a low-key dinner. My husband and daughter go to a daddy daughter dance, which adds to the fun.
ReplyDeleteI plan on watching Netflix, cuddling and eating brownies as usual, hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI currently do not have any plans for Valentine's Day. I typically will put together little gifts for the kiddos though.
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect!! I am glad to be married. I remember well being single and all the anxiety and stress of Valentines!! It sucked lol.
ReplyDeleteThat is my kind of plan too. I might make hubby a dessert or just buy ice cream
ReplyDeleteAs always, we also stay at home and he always has a surprise flowers for me. I will make some special dishes in our candle light dinner set up. Watch some romantic movies and enjoy that special night together.
ReplyDeleteI love low key holidays!! This sounds like the perfect holiday in my opinion, I hate how Hallmarky holidays can get to be.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a great way to celebrate. We're staying home too - we're going to play games, eat and be merry! Nikki x
ReplyDeleteWe are going to be visiting some friends in northern England before heading back to Canada. We arent into Valentines day. We love each other each and everyday. Dont need a hallmark card to tell each other we are still in love.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it will be a wonderful Valentine's Day! I'm all for a low key day with chocolate :)
ReplyDeleteValentine's Day is what you make it. It's great that you do breakfast or lunch - how fun! I always get dressed up in a red dress for dinner, even at home :).

I love it! We don't go out on V-Day either, everything is usually crowded and we just don't do crowds. My husband and I will probably share a huge box of Turtles and we'll do something super fun with the kids like rent a movie in and make some popcorn (the old-fashioned way).
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love how honest you are about the way your family is happy to be laid-back and comfortable with each other. We live in a world where everyone is always trying so hard to be sensational - It's refreshing to see someone who is brave enough to just say, "Look, this is who I am. Take it or leave it."
ReplyDeleteAlso, the candy tool kit is AWESOME.
Oh my gosh you two are adorable, I love this!! And that candy tool set, I need it!! (For myself haha)

We don't have any plans. I feel the same way about crowds. I don't want to go out to dinner when everyone else is, too! I'd prefer a relaxing dinner at home.
ReplyDeleteYour low key Valentine's Day sounds amazing to me, lol. I don't have a sweetheart so I'll treat myself out to one of my favorite restaurants and come home to my jammies and a good book.
ReplyDeleteI saw a post about decorating that intrigued me because I never decorate. I think I will this year just to change it up.
ReplyDeleteHaha girl you are SO like me! Your outfit is pretty much exactly what I would wear also lol
ReplyDeleteFor Vday, it will probably be like any other day. (insert sad face here)
This sound perfect. Valentine's day we doing nothing this year. I might bake some cupcakes those. xx
ReplyDeleteOMG this will so be me too. Vday will be just like any other day for me
ReplyDeleteI go a little batty with the kids - it's like Mini Christmas. As for Cassidy, I'm not sure he's even given me a single valentine in years!?
ReplyDeleteMy Valentine's Day will be pretty low-key, too. I'll spend the day in my pajamas, probably eating chocolate, lol. My husband will probably have to work, which is fine. I'm with you, going out is a nightmare. How is it romantic to spend two hours waiting for a table and another two hours waiting to get served?
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine someone having man purses as Valentine's gifts for men. But who knows? Very cute post.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of taking the kids to a local park and having brunch. The hubs is working most of the day and we'll only have night with him.
ReplyDeletesounds great! love low-key holidays
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful V-Day :) I will also be having a low-key one!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are talking about my family. We will stay at home, relax and eat some yummy snacks. Books and chocolates are my favorite gifts too!
ReplyDeleteHopefully hubby and I will be going out to dinner! If that falls through then we will be making a yummy dinner at home
ReplyDeleteI asked for books (in a kindle) and Hersheys kisses .We have been together for 15 years and he believes everyday should be about loving each other .What else can a woman want .Loved your way of spending Vday
ReplyDeleteThis sounds absolutely perfect to me/ Right up my street. Hubby and I dont really fuss over Valentine's either. I adore your love for books - and anything book related, or anything that looks like a book! love it.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind spending Valentine's Day like this, in fact that's most likely how the kids and I will spend it. I'm just planning to buy a pair of roses for them to make them feel extra special that day.
ReplyDeleteI love your realistic Valentines Day. So very true! And the restaurants usually are crazy and pizza is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, the more simple the better! I never really liked celebrating Valentine's Day. It's nice that you're giving your family something extra special.
ReplyDeleteI'll be at work although we may go for some food the day after. The whole St Valentine's thing is getting out of hand (as I will go into in my next blogpost tomorrow).
ReplyDeleteWe both are working on Valentine's day! So in the evening, either we'll be going for dinner or cooking meal together!
ReplyDeletei am gonna go to the movies and dinner and some shopping.
ReplyDeleteto be honest nothing special I don't celebrate that day. I want to be loved every day and I want to get present without any occasion:)
ReplyDeleteWe spent our Valentine's at home, he just bought food and shared it with the kids.
